Challenge: The Ainsley residential project by Drees Homes is an upscale neighborhood with 18 single-family homes on a quiet cul-de-sac street. During construction, the contractor was concerned about a shortage of dirt. MSP was contacted to assess the situation.

Solution: The MSP team saw the potential to use Reality Capture services and arrived on site within 48 hours of receiving the request. With only three hours of on-site drone data collection, including placement of three ground control points, they provided a “heat map” and the stockpiled topsoil volume to the client and contractor within a day.

Outcome: MSP found the site was 2,400 cubic yards short of clay and had 2,700 cubic yards of topsoil. Our project engineer designed an expansion of a stormwater management pond to generate more material and provide updated construction drawings within three business days. This quick solution was achieved using Reality Capture services.
