Design Challenge: University Commerce Park – as the City of Hamilton finalized the Grand Blvd. expansion to connect key land uses to each other, as well as provide a more direct route to nearby highways. Our design team along with other staff worked together to develop a plan for properties that became suitable for the development based on the road expansion. The goal was to spur development while respecting the character of the affected area.

Design Outcome: An interactive planning approach was implemented to obtain input from multiple stakeholders, this input along with city provided market demands was formulated into a master plan that also respected the area’s opportunities and limitations. Also, seamlessly integrated into the existing fabric of the study area was a key emphasis of the plan. The master plan provides development opportunities for mixed land uses. The decision focuses on maximizing development while integrating walkability, multi modal, transportation, sustainability and integration of multiple housing options.
