Gorman Park Master Plan

City of Sharonville

Design Challenge: Gorman Neighborhood Park was an outdated, underused park on Sharonville’s west side with antiquated playgrounds, community pool, unused baseball fields, and old school building used for storage. To revitalize the park, the Sharonville Parks and Recreation Department needed a master plan with a key focus on public participation.

Design Solution: With input from the community and the Sharonville Parks and Recreation Department, MSP conducted a needs assessment for park elements for the site. This included a splash pad, dry and natural playground areas, multi-use shelters, additional walking paths and on-site parking. It also involved decommissiong an old playground and removing a pool facility. We led multiple meetings, designed multiple concepts and animations which were refined for each subsequent meeting. Once these concepts were finalized, MSP facilitated a community input session to review final concepts and allow community members the opportunity to prioritize park elements. In additon, we provided preliminary budgets and phasing plans for this community park.

Design Outcome: Based on the approved Master Plan, MSP has developed construction documents for phase I which includes a playground, splashpad, park shelter and parking. During the splashpad design process, MSP collaborated extensively with Vortex regarding splashpad elements and water management systems. Phase I construction was completed in late 2021. Phase II is currently in progress.
