In 2015 Drees Homes purchased 100 acres of land for a new housing development. As part of the project, they planned to build a neighborhood amenities package including a playground, pool house and pool. When the location for the amenities was determined, Drees found that an existing barn, purchased with the land, was in the exact spot slated for the new pool house.
MSP undertook a review of the existing structure to see if it could be renovated, and developed a plan to incorporate the existing building into the overall master plan. Built in the early 1930’s by a previous owner of the property, the barn was in excellent shape, with enough space to house restrooms, an equipment room and a large open air event center.
The design utilizes as much of the existing structure and materials as possible to preserve the historic look and feel of the 80+ year old structure. The existing wood flooring planks will be used as cladding on the new interior, and an existing loft will be removed. The existing standing seem metal roof will remain, as will most of the exterior wood detailing.
