Columbia Township Community Center Renovation

Columbia Township

Design Challenge: Columbia Township needed new office space for its administration and a dedicated area for town hall and public meetings. The township planned to renovate a 75-year-old former fire station in Madisonville to meet these goals. Working through COVID-19 delays and rising construction costs added pressure to the timeline. Even with these challenges, the township stayed focused on creating an updated and welcoming space for public and private meetings and events.

Design Solution: The project team transformed the open apparatus bay into a flexible meeting space that now hosts town hall meetings, township gatherings, and community events. This space supports many types of programs while keeping the historic character of the building. Outdoor and rooftop seating areas offer added versatility and create new opportunities for year-round use. The office area features right-sized proportions to relocate administrative operations from the former Kenwood Road location. Placing offices on the second floor gives staff privacy while keeping them connected to the active meeting spaces below.

Design outcome: The completed renovation created an attractive and memorable building for Columbia Township. Since opening, the space has hosted many community events and township meetings. The new administrative offices are bright, modern, and welcoming. As a result, staff enjoy a more comfortable workspace and an improved day-to-day experience.
