Bill Yeck Park Master Plan

Centerville-Washington Park District

Design Challenge: MSP collaborated closely with the Park District to develop a master plan for the newly incorporated property into Bill Yeck Park. The planning process included a comprehensive needs assessment and several public input sessions. These sessions involved park staff, interested stakeholders, and family members of the original property owners. This collaboration ensured that the master plan would meet the diverse needs of the community and respect the legacy of the original landowners.

Design Solution: Incorporating feedback from the public and stakeholders, the master plan for Bill Yeck Park includes educational spaces that highlight various sustainable elements. These elements include minimizing site impact, reusing existing facilities, and implementing stormwater best management practices like rain gardens and bio-swales. Additionally, the plan features demonstration gardens, pervious pavement, and non-invasive native plantings. These sustainable practices aim to enhance both the park’s functionality and its environmental impact.

Design Outcome: MSP successfully completed the first phase of the Bill Yeck Park master plan. This phase includes parking areas with pervious pavement, rain gardens, and stormwater BMPs. Furthermore, wetland areas have been developed to improve water quality and retention. These initial improvements set the stage for future phases. Which will continue to enhance the park’s educational and recreational offerings while promoting sustainability.
