“My last 14 years as president have been filled with many challenges, to be sure” said Roat. “But it was also a period where MSP flourished and experienced successes on many fronts. The recession of 2008-2009, the explosion of the land development industry starting in 2012, celebration of our 160th anniversary in 2016, the publication of our company history book Looking to the Past to Build a Better Future, the impacts of the pandemic in 2020 and now learning how to manage a largely remote workforce all have presented unique challenges requiring creative solutions.

“I am truly fortunate to have been, and continue to be, surrounded by immensely talented individuals and top notch outside advisors. I am confident that as Jose picks up the reins, his strengths in marketing, his focus on a collaborative culture and his commitment to keeping MSP an industry leader will serve the firm very well.”

Jose Castrejon Elected President

Jose Castrejon, VP Landscape Architecture and PlanningThe MSP Board of Directors has subsequently appointed Jose Castrejon as president, effective immediately.

“As his father Ron Roat did, Steve leaves a legacy of a career-long commitment to the success of MSP,” Castrejon said. “His strong leadership was most evident in times of crisis: during the 2008 recession and the COVID-19  pandemic. We are grateful for his leadership and commitment to helping make MSP what it is today. We are pleased that he will continue as chair of the board

of directors to help ensure a smooth transition.

“It is an honor and privilege to be selected as president of MSP. My goal, along with the MSP’s leadership team, is to build on Steve’s legacy. The leadership team and I look forward to working with Steve as he moves into his next chapter of his life with his wife Kim. Most importantly, I am committed to reinforcing and living our strong core values, leading a team of engaged and motivated employees, and continuing to always improve the quality of work we provide our clients.
