With property values on the rise, owners were subdividing their properties into smaller lots in many American cities in the second half of the 19th century.Just prior to the Great Depression and the Stock Market Crash in 1929, work slowed down for the Thomas B. Punshon Engineering Company. When new projects were sparse, the company sought out repeat clients, approaching private and public business and property owners to re-survey their properties. One of the most notable projects of the period was a commission to survey six notable theaters located in Cincinnati: the Capitol, Albee, Strand, Palace, Family, and Lyric theaters.
