Liberty Township Pedestrian Feasibility Study

Liberty Township

Design Challenge: Liberty Township chose MSP to do a comprehensive pedestrian connectivity review of the south east quadrant of the township The goal was to determine how to link
existing suburbs, commercial developments, schools and regional trails to each other via pedestrian connections.

Design Solution: MSP applied the principles of placemaking (viewing the Liberty Township community in its entirety) and complete streets (designing streets enabling safe access for all users) to the study We designed short-term solutions to improve existing infrastructure that could be applied to make Liberty Township more connected and safe with walking and cycling pathways
This includes additional multipurpose paths, widening sidewalks, adding shade trees, refuge islands, prominent crosswalks, and landscape buffers.

Design Outcome: Recommendations were made to assist the Township in developing an implementation strategy to connect pedestrians to existing and future developments by identifying locations and areas that could maximize connectivity
