Design Challenge: The City of Milford needed design input to transform the vacant property on Main Street and Lila Avenue, site of the former Milford Main Middle School, into a civic space with streetscape. MSP was chosen to create a design strategy.
Design Solution: Multiple design components were integrated into this unique area and woven into the existing surroundings including streetscape design, multiple areas for social interaction and activities, on-street parking, and connectivity to existing neighborhood. Sustainable principles and practices were also included as part of the overall design.
Design Outcome: Construction of the park will occur in three stages, as funds are made available and levies are approved. Currently, Phase I is underway, which involves the creation of walking paths, a farmers market, water features, landscaping, greenspace, and an outdoor performance area. The estimated date of completion for Phase I is Fall 2023. Phase II will involve the addition of a pavilion, while Phase III will introduce the clock tower.
